A Pop of Red

I mentioned a few days ago that I went with the girls to do a photo shoot. Change of outfits, scenes, the whole thing! I had never had this experience and it was wonderful.

Amber took three times the pictures that I did but it was fun comparing at the end of the day. This is one of my favorite shots- the infamous pop of red. McKenna was an amazing model and a good sport.

I will post more throughout the week.

Girl's Day Out

Saturday was a day of delight!

Amber, McKenna and I had a girl's day out. Hubby played chauffeur.

We started out in Southwest Harbor at Eat-a-Pita... to be continued.

Sunshine Corner

I could have enhanced this pic with a bit of editing but this month I am enjoying August Break and looking at my photos unedited. Love this corner, yellow, shadows and all.

Courage to be Seen

"Two are better than one, for when one is down, the other will lift her up." Ecclesiastes

The first day I went for riding lessons (terrified), the instructor (using the word loosely to describe a young woman who loves horses), introduced me to them (the horses). If you got through that first sentence, we are on our way! One thing that struck me was the fact that horses have buddies, bff's. Seriously. They had to separate one horse so I could ride her buddy.

The painted words of a sister artist linger in my spirit.
I am lonely.
How well I remember feeling like that most of the time when my children were toddlers. Mu husband worked two jobs; we only had the one car and I was lonely. I would wait until my neighbor came home from work and had time to settle in, then walk across the yard to have coffee with her, toddlers and all. The welcome mat was always in place.

Women need each other, face to face, blog to blog if that is the only way in this season of your life.

"sharing ourselves- our true, messy, vulnerable selves- requires incredible courage." Susannah Conway

Praying each of you will have the courage to take a tiny step in the direction of sharing your gorgeous, messy, unique self today. Not only do you need someone, we need you.

Early Evening Ride

These pics were taken on a cloudy early evening. The haystacks are made by the Amish.
No editing because I wanted to show the true light. Taken with iPhone.

Returning

"Dancing between our need for solitude and our need to be where others are"
Susannah Conway

I know that Susannah's will be one of those books which I unwrap again and again, a gift sitting on a shelf inviting me to visit one more time. There are words within its pages touching tender, unhealed, or confused spaces inside of me with appreciation, permission or healing.

One simple way today.
I waver between my joy this placid afternoon of reading and my desire to sit on the deck of a friend's home and connect with her emotions, thoughts and journey.

Laying aside my novel, I write a procrastinated letter. Finished, I dig through a pile for the address and lay my hand on "this i know." I open to my bookmark and read until this quote. Ahhh, that sweet permission to enjoy contentment while tiny longing dances below the surface. I pen the feelings in notes while they are fresh, for blogging later.

And return to my book
with a smile.

Starting a New Book

I love how my eye is seeing a photo opportunity each day. I started a new book last night and laid it on the mirror I bought at a yard sale when I was making the bed. As I reached out to move it, I thought, "take a picture."
So I did.
